When on country changes the trade pattern through tariffs that are imposed one week, raised the next, and lowered the following day, the reliability and relationship between the trading partners gets fractured. This erratic behavior results in the perception of failing to be a reliable supplier. When trust is broken, trade will always migrate to a more stable partner.
You're describing EXACTLY how China has treated trading with the US for decades. China has always been an unreliable trading partner. It has never been a two way street of free/fair trade with China.
I’ve never understood why some want to continue to pretend PRC is/was our friend. They are not, never have been and never will be.
