Jon are you using whole bales or slicing/grinding ahead of time? Since i started slicing all my bales I start every ration with just how much dry hay is needed and add silage next to keep it down. very seldom does mine puke any out. I'm a firm believer in making your bale fit your ration instead of ration fitting bale size. Way less mixing time if sliced also.
