
| I didn't soley condemn anybody. They did a great thing. They set about the first democratically elected govt in modern history. They were children of the Enlightenment, and concurrent with it. They were carrying out the vision of Locke, and Hobbes, and innumerable others. They were also imperfect. Many of them also expected to profit handsomely from the revolution. Some did, most didn't. Celebrate what they did, sure, but why the need to deify them? Looking at their actual motivations is much more interesting than the bull**** Saint picture of them that's popularly projected. |
