He was found guilty by a jury, after seeing the evidence, and was somehow wrongly accused?
How? Did the Judge give the jury improper instructions or something? If there was some sort of technicality, why wait until after the jury decision to toss it? Only reason I can see in waiting would be the Judge was hoping that the jury would have a 'not guilty' verdict.
