Southwestern Minnesota | There are definitely things he can do diet wise to help save any kidney function he has. I would suggest that the kidney specialist refer him to a renal dietitian so that they can look at the lab work and give some more personalized recommendations. Some general recommendations would be to be on a low sodium, low potassium, low phosphorus diet, as well as a lower protein diet and maybe a mild fluid restriction. Those measures are to help preserve any kidney function he has. If his kidneys really are "shot" and he needs to go on dialysis, then the recommendations are somewhat different. Any dialysis unit will have an RD to help manage his diet and labs. | |
