Saw dust would have a caloric value if burned in a bomb calorimeter (a meter potentially made by the company Baum - ain't that funny). As would potatoes.

Would ingesting the same number calories of each cause the same weight gain?

I think one takeaway I got from the presentation is it is what the body does with the calories more so than how many calories.
