Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251 | Hi Ken,
Ive tried all three. The first one is the one to get for us.
I bought all three from Valley Vet. The big yellow one is too heavy and clumsy to use reaching out after a calf that's about to take off. Too long for storing in a side by side bed, and you can't hold it stretched out while running after a calf or out the side of a machine.. Its hanging in the barn, id give it away to anyone that cones to visit! Walking in the woods with it is a joke, might as well be carrying a sheet of tin.
The third one was also bulky and kinda clumsy, but did okay until it was 10 below one morning and it snapped in half.
The metal one works great. We carry one in both side by sides we use. I grab it every time I get out to tag a calf, even a brand new one laying down. Its solid enough I can use it as a cane for this old man crossing a creek, and it also works good to give an old cow a rap in the nose while putting in a tag on her calf if necessary. Yes, you can bend the hook. But its metal and bends back easily. That also let's you adjust the opening a bit if needed. I dont extend it out much at all. But its light enough we do if I have a wingman with me in a side by side chasing one. He will extend it out and can handle that with two arms. By myself, if I can't sneak up gently, and put out two quick steps if needed, I wasn't catching that little bugger with wheels on anyway, no matter how long a reach.
