I don't have any of the answers you're looking for, except to say that washed 3/4 rock would probably work. Crusher run base rock with the fines in it definitely will not. You're going to have a number of big "escapes" that made it through, but shouldn't be a big issue.

The biggest question I have is why not just order a redimix truck? That's going to be a ton of work to mix and pour unless you have your own trailer mounted mixer or something.

Last year, I poured 2 small slabs for waterers and used quickrete bags and a wheelbarrow. I VERY QUICKLY regretted the decision not to find another project around the house to get a minimum for a truck delivery of redimix.
