Subject: Annual clover for hay?

For 2025 we grew a forage barley and Italian ryegrass mix for hay. It worked really well. We yielded 5.3 ton to the acre with 2 cuttings and didn’t get it planted until June 10.

This coming year I’d like to add some clover to the mix- not so much for the nitrogen, more for biodiversity and to make a more complete feed for the cattle. This will be a spring planted, annual stand.

What clover variety would do well and add the most forage to the mix? I’m currently looking at Balansa, Persian, crimson or red clover.
