NC Nebraska
I agree about the scrap iron, there are a lot of picketts around here that have been sitting for a while. In fact we still have a couple Orthman knives sitting out back with front hitches. We've tried direct cutting a few times but always end up fighting the green stems that never seem to die, probably not such an issue anymore with the STS's. Also it seems kidneys never mature out evenly, leaving a lot of smeared or pumpkins in the tank. I've seen pics of a hydraflex cutting kidneys and wasn't impressed. Deere's reel doesn't reach close enough to the cutter bar like a macdon will. Around here by the time things would be mature and dry enough to direct cut the beans would have shrunk so bad we'd but cutting a lot of them in half. Like I said above, we are trying to stay ahead of the game and swath them a little early when they are a little taller. What are you using for a head to direct cut?
