Yep, really sucks the border was intentionally fubar’d…. Who knows the motives of those ahead of him and how long they were in the country….
Edit: standard green card according to your paste says to file the i-90 form about 6 months before expiration. Once filed, there is an AUTOMATIC electronic extension that is up to 36 more months….
36 months = 3 years?
He should make a copy of the extension from the uscis and keep on his person. Original kept by someone he trusts/his lawyer etc.
