Central IL | The heat will have no problem going through all that thickness it just takes longer to get through. Carpet is prob the worst as its like having a blanket over the radiator but it still works fine. Be sure to use aluminimum plates over the pex. Using reflextix or similar as a barrier to push the heat up helps but not as important as the plates. I just run hot water straight from the wood furnace to the floor but I have to watch for temp swings in the weather and moderate the boiler accordingly to avoid overheating. There are controls to do this for you with outdoor reset…. I just have not adapted that to my system.
As for baseboard heat it takes high water temps to achieve good heat output. There are low temp radiators but they have higher price tags too. Probably worth it in the long run as any system using high water temps requires more energy and my opinion less comfortable. | |
