Subject: RE: Tyson shutting down major beef plant

Boone & Crockett - 11/21/2025 18:17 So, why would they shut down? Plant just falling apart? I thought there was big money in butchering cattle.

I have no knowledge of this particular plant but the writing has been on the wall for a long long time that another beef plant would inevitably be closed.

Packing plants run the most efficient and most profitably when they are run at full capacity.   When you have excess packing capacity every plant in the country is fighting over cattle and likely not running at full capacity.     Do that long enough and a plant gets closed resulting in the remaining plants running closer to capacity and more profitably.

Packing plants are run by business men, not farmers.    They're not going to burn up all of their equity before making a hard decision that leads to a more profitable business.
