Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | Wife got a set of Jabra via the internet. Had them for about a year now. She started with analog probably 25 years ago and has been through several sets since then. She is very close to being legally deaf. As long as the conversation is one on one it's fine. Even in a noisy restaurant she does well talking with the person across the table. In a noisy environment where she's not facing the person it's almost useless. These she controls with her iPhone. Also gets major adjustments from the company via the internet. Hearing aids cannot completely replace natural hearing, but for in house conversations with your wife they will be worth whatever it costs. Just a word of advice. The person who is talking to the person wearing hearing aids will also have to make some adjustments. I don't even try to tell my wife anything when she is in another room. About the best that happens in that situation is that I get her attention. I know that you mentioned that your wife is having some speech problems as the result of some medical treatments. Probably very little, if anything, she can do about that, but the more clearly she can enunciate the better. Wife has a friend that she can hear fine over the phone (phone feeds directly into the hearing aids via blue tooth), but in person this friend either will not or cannot speak just a bit louder or more clearly. My wife can understand her but sometimes still has to guess at what was said. When my wife goes to the doctor she has to tell the nurse and doctor that she is hard of hearing and she would appreciate it if they speak up a bit. My mother (96 years young) is almost completely deaf in one ear and very diminished hearing in the other. She recently got some hearing aids that have the phone connection capability but she decided that was a bit too much for her to deal with so she had that feature turned off. She can raise or lower the volume via a button on the back of the receiver behind her ear. There's lots of options out there. My wife has researched most of them and used some of them. We have pretty much come to the conclusion that the top two or three brands (Jabra, Resound, etc) are all good options. It just depends on your specific situation and how the options available on a particular model will meet those needs. Good luck in your quest. |
