Sounds like way more furnace than you need. I’m not so concerned it’s the efficiency as I am living with it. A bigger furnace requires more airflow. You can’t drop a 100,000 BTU unit in the same ductwork as that sized for 50. Even if you’re starting from scratch you still have to move the higher volume of air. So instead of a warm gentle breeze through the room you have enough hot air to wave a flag.

Saw this at a church several years ago. One furnace did the sanctuary , another did classrooms, offices, and restrooms. Someone had the idea to put in a flap in the duct to shut off the classrooms during the week.

Sounds smart, right? It throttled back the air flow so much the furnace lasted a very short time before the heat exchanger was ruined. If it had air conditioning (didn’t back then) it would have been a total mess
