| What I remember the HVAC system designer saying when we built a house 25 years ago is that the furnace needs to be sized to the square feet. If the furnace is oversized it wont run long enough to see the efficiency of it. Think vehicle mileage on a 200 mile trip vs. short trips to town and start and stop traffic. Our old house was <1300 SF and I replaced the furnace in that. The guy put a 100,000 BTU in. When we built the current house which is 1600 plus finished basement they put a 65,000 BTU in and its plenty. Modern construction with good windows and more insulation don't need as big a furnace. | |
