North Central Indiana | Those require crop insurance and government program enrollment. My operating loan at the bank requires crop insurance, my equipment loan even required crop insurance. I’m 27 for reference. So you’ve got a great idea, problem is the system would lock out all young and beginning farmers if crop insurance was gone. Consolidation is going to continue, regardless of crop insurance, incentives, government payments, etc. it just makes sense from an efficiency standpoint. Why does Corteva want to work with 10,000 farmers when they can work with 1,000 covering the same acres? Why do they need a farmer dealer every 10 miles if they can have one large distribution center or retailer handle the same volume that all those little dealers do? Same for every single sector of ag inputs and machinery. Why does a dealership want to work with me, a guy that will never buy new equipment and rarely if ever buy late model used? All I do is call them to work on 35 year old equipment that most of the techs haven’t seen before and definitely weren’t trained on. How will it get to that point? Increased volume pricing differences, prioritizing large customers more heavily over small customers, etc. it already happens. Crank it up a few notches and squeeze the little guys out. That’s how things work | |
