West Central Wisconsin | I know you distribute a fair amount of your produce to others but how many freezers or canning jars do you own? It occurred to me recently while our two daughters were living at home we got by with one freezer and two refrigerators. Now we have four and a half freezers and three refrigerators and looking at another fridge, and we don't have our own farm raised beef anymore! My wife and have preserved more in the last four years than we ever have. We can mostly meat including venison, chicken breast and corned beef. She does some fruits and vegetables like apple sauce, cranberry juice, tomatoes and green beans. She's never been real keen on doing many other vegetables, or pickles, because she doesn't like the taste as well. We do a lot of freezing of sweet corn, string beans, pumpkin puree one year and apple sauce. Two years ago she made and put 23 apple pies and 18 apple crisps in the freezer. We give a lot of these foods to our daughters who have given us five grandchildren under the age of six. I make a fair amount of sausage also. | |
