You have to have some metric of what constitutes a win or the goal we are aiming for. Trade balance, GDP growth, etc. Just saying "we are fighting" goes against all rules of war. There has to be an end goal in mind and I was just wondering what your goal was in this trade war. Fighting impossible wars is a fools errand.

What if China is no where near the lowest cost producers any longer? Would running a trade deficit just with different countries be acceptable?

No the US will never be cost competitive in labor inensive industries again. And if we are, you really dont want to be living in that America. Being poorer for the sake of not buying imported goods is not an end goal I want to shoot for.

Oil, gas, agriculture, and steel can never be offshore because they are important for national security. Read up on World War II. If you really wanna learn why America is the most powerful nation in the world. The only way China can defeat America is to knock those three legs off the stool. Where would China be if they didn’t have to rely on the rest of the world for food think about that
