You have to have some metric of what constitutes a win or the goal we are aiming for. Trade balance, GDP growth, etc. Just saying "we are fighting" goes against all rules of war. There has to be an end goal in mind and I was just wondering what your goal was in this trade war. Fighting impossible wars is a fools errand.

What if China is no where near the lowest cost producers any longer? Would running a trade deficit just with different countries be acceptable?

No the US will never be cost competitive in labor inensive industries again. And if we are, you really dont want to be living in that America. Being poorer for the sake of not buying imported goods is not a end goal I want to shoot for.
