Thers (among other chems) a RU label for asparagus. Timing is critical.

Never heard anyone say that asparagus can't be reestablished in old beds. Not saying its factual either way, but I'm pretty sure I talked to someone many years ago who was reestablishing asparagus on existing beds. This was a commercial grower.

When it comes to harvesting methods: Michigan growers advertised for years that they snapped vs cut asparagus. Snapping isn't common world wide, its mostly cut. Snapping yields less, but it also yields 100% edible asparagus. If you see asparagus with white colored stems on the bottom, it was usually cut and it'll need to be trimmed off. Snapping won't have that white part.
