Freeburg IL | The further I go down the soil health path, the more questions I have. 27 years farming myself now. Near zero applied phosphorus, and soil tests have gone up. How? The phosphorus paradox has an explanation, right or wrong, who knows. Liming on PH seems flawed to me. Base saturation works better. I have a high mag farm where applying lime brought my PH DOWN. Why? Mag raises ph more than calcium. Why did I apply lime to a high ph farm. Base saturation numbers suggested it may work. I've made it to the point of viewing potasium chloride and anhydrous ammonia as poison, not fertility. Maybe I'm all wrong, but it's working for me. | |
