Subject: Brazilian Soybean price…how is it determined?

Farmington, Mo
I always hear that Brazil’s beans are so much a bushel cheaper than ours here in the states. Forgive my ignorance, but why is that? Do they have their own CBOT?

I was always under the impression that they priced their crops off of our markets…but how can that be if they have the transportation issues and inflation and currency issues they do? How can they continue to add acres with those economics?

I understand they have a cheaper cost structure than we do…particularly in the equipment, labor and seed costs.

So how can we ever be competitive if they are always willing to be at -$1.50 basis to NOLA?
