Get a cat plan with ~$5k deductible, and an accident/illness plan with a $5K max.   Both are very cheap, and you are pretty much covered for anything.
We  are paying ~$400 per month, wife and I, 60 & 61. Had the same when all the kids were home, was ~$700 per month.
