NW Washington | There are something like 22 million pounds of asparagus grown on 4500 acres in the Columbia Basin in central Washington near the Tri-Cities. Finding enough labor to grow and harvest it is one of the most significant problems. No one has yet figured out how to design a machine that will harvest asparagus. It is also grown in California, Mexico, and a couple of countries in South America.
