Wi is one of those states with a "baby box" law, and it was used for the first time recently. I believe it's a terrible idea, because of assuming the risk of maintaining one that will likely never be used, and possibly not correctly maintained when it's needed. Handing a baby off in person is fine, anybody that works in a hospital, police station or FD should know how to call 911.
Those boxes are hooked into 24/7 monitoring from an alarm system provider that also notifies when there is any trouble with the system. The boxes are checked weekly following a specific protocol to ensure the system functions properly if used and Safe Haven does preventive maintenance on a schedule. Also, if its putting a baby in a box or putting them in a dumpster I'd take the box all day, not every mother in this scenario is going to be able to hand her baby off in person |
