I have 2 of these in my house. They are actual Steffes brand. Probably installed in the 80s as that is when some prior owner put a new breaker panel in and setup electric offpeak, etc.

I've never had any problems with them. They are insanely heavy. Some years back I did some remodeling and had to move one away from the wall and it was quite a problem to nudge it far enough away. If I had accidently tipped it over, probably would need 2 guys with more muscle than I have and some prybars to get it tipped back up.

I just checked my pictures from that project and there were 5 wires. 240V power and 2 more for I think the thermostat for the blower. I had to disconnect that stuff and put it back. Not hard.

What I don't like about these (and the other baseboard heaters in the place) is you have to experiment where to set the knobs for temperature until you figure it out. No overall thermostats for the house, etc. These 2 storage heaters are on a thermostat but its for the fans. You have to set how hot the heater gets with a knob on each one. Knob goes from off to 3. I've never dared turn them up beyond 2. That is hot enough you can't keep your hand on the thing already.
