Yes you could go to a mixer. You can have a wore out mixer and it will still go quite awhile. Main thing is just putting in the liners and knives as needed. It will be a little harder to tell when your screw is getting thin but I would suspect your liner will go first. I ended up with luck now due to budget. It sat unused in a shed for 5 years. Cloverdale is the mixer I would like you to get, penta would be a close second.

While you can process bales in the mixer I’m not a fan of it…. In my opinion they are made to mix feed not grind hay. While you are doing wet hay you might not have another choice unless you found someone to chop your hay. I think you will like the shorter length of cut for backgrounding. Will take some fuel to make it happen though.

Yes put your feed into the tmr but save a few pounds to topdress the bunks. It’s amazing how nice they come to the bunk and you can walk amongst them for health issues. Also nice when it’s time to work them… shake the bucket and they come running like cows

I should add I don’t feed in concrete or alleys. Rubber lined bunks for the feeders and the cows are mixed between bottomless bunks and tire feeders. Just takes a little work moving bunks around as needed.
