SW MN - mt. lake/windom | The reality is it depends on what is written in the contract. Anything under 10 percent overstocked is a non issue. Are you willing to take less if the barn is less than 100 percent capacity? Out of feed events imo cause more damage than overstocking. When we were custom feeding we wrote in the contract an overstocking policy, we did not enforce it because they producer was good to work with. Now that we are switching over to leasing the barns we are saying that the producer can use them how they see fit. IMO the producer does not gain efficiency from overstocking, it’s at times a necessary evil to adjust to fluctuating production rates. I guess my opinion is that it is just a part of the business your in unless it’s written in the contract. | |
