Subject: RE: Homemade gates vs buying

SW OH
I build my own. I've bought the best that Tarter, Priefert, and Sioux have to offer. After a few years they get rusty. 1 turn by a cow and they get bent. Once bent they are doomed. If my bull scratches himself on 1, it's bent.

I build mine out of 2X2X14 gauge square tubing. A 12 footer weighs 148 pounds. The factory made heavy duty ones weigh around 58 pounds. I haven't bought any tubing in 5 years, but I could buy it for 60% of the cost of buying a 58 pound factory made. Years ago I had a 2,400 pound bull teetering on top of a 12 footer. He didn't bend it at all.

I've made several custom gates, panels, etc as well. 1 has a 90 degree bend, 1 telescopes, drop gates, Y sort, etc.
