Take it for what’s it’s worth but here is my opinion. 8-10k plants is fine, even on early day stuff. I’ve seen 180-200 dropping 18k seeds. 30” planters are cheap and much easier to run down rows spraying, etc. if corn only does 60-80bpa and is short just cut it with Draper heads. I’ve done it on a piece I farm that is literally just a gravel ridge. Nothing else will grow there because it just burns up every summer. I’ve planted a 78day drought trait corn at low populations and consistently get 80-100 bpa. 2 of the last 4 years I’ve just cut it with a Draper if it’s too short. 40’ Draper and roll right through it at 4-5 mph, don’t hardly loose a kernel. Big problem with short droughts corn is keeping the cobs in the head. I guarantee that you get more gdu’s than I do. There are some really good flex early day varieties, much better selection than 15 years ago.
