N.E. MT
We Have heaps of forages need more of a grain/cash source. don’t know of a market for Milo, Not sure on insurance, or if it makes good finishing grain. I can ask that question. If I can find something that even almost covers input costs on rp insurance I will Be seeding 12,000 acres of it. Barley, durum, Wheat, peas, lentils, canola and flax are all losers currently. Will be establishing all the alfalfa we need while commodities are in the dumps next year also. Have massive stores of barley, durum, pea and alfalfa hay and Have over 50k ton pile of corn silage, should cover all forage needs for next two years. Really need a cash crop but don’t want to do anything that is a negative on insurance dollars. Land payment/equipment payment and general cereal crop inputs are around 200$/acre really just need some rain but trying to think outside the box on how to not loose money farming. 120-200 mile round trip to deliver most commodities we normally grow. Anything I can finish cattle with would be beneficial. I know a lot of farms are struggling to be profitable, just trying to think outside the box.
