Is corn insurable in your area? I wouldn’t want to risk it without crop insurance.
We like corn following wheat from the year before. The more cover the better. And a longer period of time to accumulate moisture.
I think you’re on the right track with 20” rows. That will shade the ground the best.
For 60-80 bushel you probably need 8,000 plants per acre. I think I would drop 10k. Shorter season corn usually doesn’t flex as well as longer season corn.
