We drive 2 7/8th steel pipe 5 ft deep for corners, and sucker rod/top rail fence. We do the same for every 6th line post on barbed wore or woven wire fence. Should not have any fence lean in the future even on a road bank with only 5 t-posts between steel pipe posts.
It sure doesn't add much to the total cost of a new fence by going deeper/longer posts.
