For the last three years I've done multiple side by sides on multiple hybrids running 4 and 5 gallons per acre of 6-24-6 in furrow and have yet to see a yield increase let alone a positive roi. No difference in yield, moisture or test weight, would almost think the chain for the pump never got pulled off for the trials except I did it myself. This year was a terrible cold and wet spring, the corn was awful yellow and sickly up till about three leaf, really expected to see a difference in yield but no such luck despite being fairly obvious visually in the spring.
So this begs the question, what now? Totally go without? Try something else? I broadcast all my P and K in the fall and all my N and S is broadcast in the spring at planting as 28% and ATS. Since I have the tanks, pump and plumbing on my planter would I be foolish to try banding 10gpa of 28% and 5 of ATS behind the closing wheels, use 28% incorporated as carrier for my pre chems and Y drop or side dress the remainder of my N hoping for a better bang for my buck?
The other option I have is I do have dry fertilizer boxes for my planter but the openers went for scrap hence why the liquid kit went on. I'm equipped to get dry fertilizer to the planter if it would show a positive roi banding dry 2x2 but liquid is pretty nice and keeps the planter clean too.
Mostly owned ground with the remainder being long term cash rent and all has decent fertility except for one farm that's being brought up to par with the rest.
