| Most commercial cattle are so out crossed there is not much heterosis available. I'm talking within the Angus breed. When one gets your cowherd genetics similar then you can make heterosis work, whether within the breed or cross breeding. One of the big problems I see is the lack of consistency that comes with always breeding for the fad cattle. I'd much rather have a set of calves with maybe two cuts of the steers than what you often see today where there are four or five cuts because there is no consistency in the cow herd.
