If it’s remote use Liquid feed or lick tubs. As long as it stays above 0 average temp and they don’t have calves on them they will put on weight with it. This part of the world we manage dead grass for 10 months and use green for 2. If there’s an option to feed them a tmr just a couple pounds of DDGs, alfalfa and enough silage to make it sticky together would do wonders too.
