Subject: RE: Spreading Lime on fields.

South Central Illinois
Lime is used to raise the pH of the soil.
pH is an abbreviation of the phrase, “Power of Hydrogen”.
All Nitrogen derived from Anhydrous Ammonia has hydrogen in it.
The lime neutralizes the effects of the hydrogen in the nitrogen.
Different soils react differently to the hydrogen and also the limestone.
Most any soil lab can produce a lime reconnection and also a VRT map to meet these recommendations.
Calcium is also a necessary nutrient.
The base saturation of calcium should be 65%
Calcium
Hydrogen
Potassium
Magnesium
Sodium
Are ion’s.
So they fixed to the soil.
Via a positive and negative charge.
