south central IL | I’ve always likened nitrogen use in corn to driving a truck pulling a large trailer. Going down hill with a wind at your back is a lot more efficient than bucking a 30 mile per hour wind going up a hill. If the soil conditions are perfect the soil will mineralize more and the roots can expand and access more of what’s available, that’s part of why we really can’t predict the actual amount to apply.
