North of London | Food insecurity in the 1930ies came from the economy and people not being able to pay for food not a lack of food in this area.
The 1980ies was a financial problem again not production.
Some of us indeed many/most survived by tightening our belts and partly by being financially careful before the interest rates doubled and more.
Evolution keeps improving the diseases and weeds so they can impact our yields but so far science has stayed ahead.
For example average corn yields are now 3 times what was considered 'coffee shop yields' when i began farming.
What was considered an average sized farm when I began farming can now be planted or harvested in one day so that individual has to farm many times what used to be a full time job.
That is the natural progression of business and yes farming is a business if someone expects to be successful
Look at any industry how many 'smaller' enterprises amalgamate through the years to become only a very few companies.
The auto industry is one example.
Farming is just following the usual process | |
