Kansas City, Missouri | Well, can’t say I’m losing any sleep over it. That book’s been outta touch for about 30 years now. Last time I looked at one, it was telling me to plant corn by the moon and wash my tractor when Mercury’s in retro-something. Hell, I don’t even know what that means.
Back in the day, sure, it was fine when folks didn’t have radar apps or agronomists on speed dial. But nowadays it’s about as useful as a 2 row cultivator. You’d get better info reading the tag on a jug of glyphosate or dual.
That thing turned into a magazine for backyard gardeners and folks “growing pumpkins for stress relief.” I’m a farmer, not a yoga instructor with a tomato patch.
If I want real info, I’ll read Successful Farming, talk to the co-op, or check my phone like the rest of civilization. The Almanac’s great if you’re into horoscopes and compost tea, but not if you’re trying to make a living off real dirt.
Times change. You either keep up, or you get left in the weeds with your moon calendar.
