Malta, Illinois | I am not on board with the 187 the USDA is claiming. However, I believe the crop is better than the NAT crowd is letting on. I know there were issues with southern rust and other things but there is something like that somewhere every year. Southern rust took the top off our yields and we did not have a record crop. Had we not had rust and caught one more rain in August there would have been a lot of 300 bushel corn in this area. As it was we raised a crop that is pretty much tied for the second and third best ever. Way above APH. I keep hearing stories about corn piled up in Nebraska and Kansas and nowhere to go with but whatever ethanol plants can grind in a day. It sounds like there is a lot of good corn in the Dakotas and Minnesota as well. My opinion is that it is not a record crop but it might not be as far from it as everyone here seems to think. | |
