Brazos Valley | It was a single franchise owner that got the rights revoked from corporate DQ forcing the closure of about 25 locations (I think) state wide including the one in my town and I’m 9 hours south of you.
Our store had been locally owned as a two store franchise up until the old man died in 2018 or so and the family sold it to the big franchise. Big franchise could not retain employees, could not keep machines operating and could not keep the store stocked. I went in one night with the kids and the lady behind the counter went to make our Blizzards and the ice cream came out like pudding and she slammed her hand down and yelled “I hate these damn people” and then she came over and apologized to me and explained that they’d been running on one machine for three weeks and they wouldn’t even send someone to look at it. I was told by someone in the know that the franchisee wouldn’t update the stores as DQ was requiring and generally had a bad reputation for service and that’s why they lost the whole deal.
Our location got bought by a large family owned DQ franchise(Smith Dairy Queen) based out of College Station (which is only thirty miles away from us) and they came in and gutted the building, all new everything and it opened this past Monday, I’m pretty sure all 1500 residents went by that night including us and even that busy they did a great job.
I’m excited to get my Friday night blizzard fix again, it’s been since February when it closed and that’s too long!
