Yes there is definately more loss around the dividers...sometimes only half a plant will get cut in a swath. What does a guy do? I believe swathing leaves more than the one-steps but man is it easier here anyways and allows us to grow more acres. We were always fighting hard ground although we were doing a lot of tillage ahead of time, to the point where we were pre-watering just to get the darn thing in the ground. One-steps do work better in cultivated rows I know but the 15"ers yield a lot better for us. Not to mention we don't have the dirt in the windrow anymore-next to none actually.

We are using the stub guards-think it's necessary. Our guards (top and bottum) last around 750 acres before they are shot. As far as the sections...every other day we have to replace them. That's one downfall for us is the maintenance...seems like one guy runs it while another maintains it everyday. The head is a double drive and we ended up just buying another sickle so we can pull the worn one out and put the fresh one in with new sections. We're swathing at night with the dew. Another reason for us to run across the rows is to keep the head closer to the ground. A lot of our fields have some ridges in them yet from years of overlapping the disk.
