Southeast Colorado | We sold our calves last week on Friday. We had grown them pretty big thanks to less numbers for us, and better grass than normal. Our 800+ lb steers probably brought $200 less than they would have 2 weeks ago.
Now here's maybe the more serious part, since perhaps others are thinking like me. We kept 80% of our heifers back...........and I wasn't really in a growth mode. I just knew that the recent hit on prices would drive me more crazy........so we're expanding the herd. Maybe that's too short-term thinking. But it's the decision I made. The heifers we did sell were at the low 700lb range.........and brought $2300. So it wasn't like we gave them away. And we kept the best of the bunch. | |
