| You didn't say if this is owned acreage or how big of a field it is. Is it surface water only or do you have seeps that run a lot? Here's what I know, we farm lots of wet ground and tile is the best solution even if you don't think you can afford it. I tiled about 60 acres 2 falls ago that was adjacent to a 40 I had done 10 years ago. In the spring we could farm right up to where the tile stopped. Now I can farm all the way across and the yield monitor tells me I've added a minimum of 80 bu/acre. My son bought a piece that had a wet seep diagonal to the lay of the field, couldn't farm through it, or if you did it would drowned out in season. We tiled it at the same time, fixed it and it's really good ground. That piece was about 8-10 acres, so for the price of the tile it was like buying additional ground. Depending on how much of a yield hit you're taking, you can borrow the money for tile and pay it off | |
