NW IA | My 22? year old Yamaha Kodiak's rear end locked up this spring. I found a Honda Foreman with only 67 miles on it at a fair price and bought it in part due to the great reviews on NAT. I found mixed reviews of the Honda electric/automatic shift online, but mine is a foot-shift.
I have no reason to doubt that the Foreman will be reliable for years to come, BUT, I wouldn't buy it had I known how annoying the foot shift is after being used to the CVT Yamaha. Reverse is also slow on the foot-shift. I would get another Yamaha if doing it over. Might trade the Honda, not sure about that.
When we have guests or farm help the Yamaha is simple to get them moving since most have little experience with ATV's.
I should mention that the shop I dropped the Yamaha at to be repaired said it wasn't worth the cost of a new rear end was mistaken (I don't blame them, long story) I took it apart thinking I'd just convert it to front wheel drive and found it just needed a $50 shaft and back to work.
Also consider your needs. One thing I didn't anticipate was that the Foreman is a bit too tall for grabbing things off the ground while seated, random junk in the field, an ear of corn, a rock, pulling flags etc. A lower to the ground 4-wheeler is so handy in many situations.
