North Mississippi Delta / Alabama Gulf Coast
My fields have deep grown up ditches around the property boundaries like most in the Delta.
There are spots that hold water and don’t drain off since we are flat here.
I dug short ditches with backhoe straight out fron overgrown ditch to create a drain basin that I can back into with a subsoiler with a 4” pig attached.
By getting the pig in the bottom of the ditch, it will create drain channels to the wet areas that will last about 2 seasons. They get refreshed before any fieldwork is done.
I can create a natural ditch by running a small pan over the subsoiled ground right after plowing as it ‘blows’ the ground up and is easy to scrape off. When it all settles, a small depression is left that carries off lots of surface water.
Also will pull in a big wire or conduit two feet deep.
