Callao Missouri
I've had 1680, 2188's. Those machines run every day without much fuss. Like you I wanted one bigger combine. Was kinda scared of flagships at the time. I bought a deer 9860. Honestly it has accomplished my goal of one big combine. The Deere's are much cheaper than cih flagships on the used market.

The problem with the deere is there is always something wrong with it every day. Some days the problem is bigger than others. Im going back to red before next season. Im also very disappointed in the deeres ability to harvest soybeans. The limiting factor is the feeder slip clutch. I have to reverse it 15 times a day because the Mac don head will cut more soybeans than the deere can choke up the feeder. I've updated feeder clutch, installed the larger speed up sprocket off an s series. (That did help some). Replaced feeder beater paddles everything. I hate the 5 second delay between when you ok push the unloader button and it coming on.
If the combine your looking at has 28l 26 tires on rear, it'll float good. However it's just about impossible to steer it in a slow or no speed situation. The variable speed feeder house drive is a continuous maintenance nightmare. I do like the chopper and spreading abilities. Also after the addition of large wire concaves, harvest loss is almost zero. Very comfortable operators seat.

I guess im just disappointed in the deere, maybe had too high of expectations to begin with. Seems like it was geared to the guy that buys it. Uses it, trades it pretty quick for the next model and then is impressed with the things they fixed or updated, vs the guy that buys and holds for several years.

The problem is you can buy a used S series for what it takes to buy a 10 years older 8120 flagship.
Good luck with your decision, be wary of too high of expectations.
