Madision County, IL

See attached images to get a visual of how we install ditches.  There are a lot of ditches but some of our flatter fields require it to maximize yield.

Couple thoughts:

RTK guidance to make sure the ditches are cut in the same spot any time they need to be touched up.

Try to angle somewhat perpendicular to field operations/planting to help funnel water to the ditches.  Ditcher ditches can get very rough when the tires on an axle bounces through the ditch at the same time.

Try to flag the wet spots after a rain and set a guidance line to the center of that location.  Minimize depth when inside to hole.  Throwing dirt out of the hole only makes it bigger.

Most of the guidance lines in the picture are set at 120'.  Guidance width can be adjusted based upon needs of the situation.

Don't make the ditches any deeper than necessary to get the water off the field.  I think it's ok if they are flat.  The water will flow to the outlet.

Install a drainage ditch on the edge of the field if it makes installing the ditcher ditches more efficient.

Good luck!!

Jay
